MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Passaic Fire Department is to provide the citizens of Passaic with the highest degree of service within our capacity in order to preserve and protect life and property from the devastation of fire and other life threatening emergencies.

ADMINISTRATION

The Chief of The Passaic Fire Department is Patrick Trentacost Sr.. He was appointed on March 1st, 2007. He is a 22 year veteran of the Passaic Fire Dept.

The Administration Dept. is head by the Chief of the Fire Department. He oversees all of the departments planning and coordinates allocation of department resources. He develops the department's budget, payroll and purchasing.

The Administrative Chief is Deputy Chief Paul Shefchik. He is in charge of administrative issues within the Department. Rules and regulations, standard operating procedures and discipline issues which are monitored and enforced.

The Management Specialist/Administrator - Mr. Douglas Johnson formulates fire reports under the NFIRS system, maintains personnel records and works in conjunction with the Chief. Civilian's employees who are sworn staff in this division also assist in the overall functions of the administration.

The Passaic Fire Department Administration office is located at 11 Hope Avenue in Passaic, New Jersey.

SUPPRESSION



The Passaic Fire Department is staffed by 117 personnel, operating out of 2 fire stations. The Eastside and Westside Firehouse. Each station maintains and operates 2 engine companies and 1 Ladder Company. Each ladder/truck company is assigned and officer and 4 firefighters. The engine company is assigned 1 officer and 3 firefighters. In each station, on every shift, there are 2 Lieutenants, 1 Captain and, 10 Firefighters. In addition, each of the 4 shifts has 1 Deputy Chief who serves as the "Shift Commander". An accountability firefighter is assigned to the Deputy Chief. He can assist the Deputy Chief in various fire ground assignments. The Deputy Chief for the shift maintains his own response vehicle and responds from the Westside fire station. This Division is the most visible in the department, responding to over 3,000 emergencies a year. The personnel in this Division are highly trained in firefighting and in various emergency situations

TRAINING DIVISION

The Passaic Fire Department Training Division is headed up by Lieutenant John Lewis, who also serves as the Department's Safety Officer on most on-scene incidents. The Training Division provides upgrade training for members of the Passaic Fire Department in: " fire suppression techniques... " emergency vehicle operations... " vehicle extrication practices... " water craft operations... " confined space/trench rescue... " hazardous materials operations... " homeland security/ WMD awareness... In addition, it is their responsibility to provide support services and assistance for site classes and meetings for outside agencies, maintain training with other mutual aid departments, and be the resource center for books, videos and training aids The Training Division initiates and supervises the job development of fire fighters commencing with the probationary period and continuing throughout their career. In addition, the Division is involved in research programs designed to improve fire fighting techniques, and protection of fire fighters.

COMMUNICATIONS AND EQUIPMENT DIVISION

The Communications Division is head by Captain Ray Schmitz. A 23 year veteran of the Dept. Also considered as our “XO” The Communications Center's responsibilities fall into the following major categories: " Dispatch Operations " Dispatcher Training " Emergency Medical Dispatching Quality Assurance " 911 Training " Computer and Network Systems The Equipment Division ensures proper equipment care and distribution to combat personnel. This included PEOSHA The Division prepares and evaluates new tools and appliances before their use in the Department.
